In his third term as Washington's District Seven Representative, Jim McDermott chairs the House Standards of Official Conduct Committee and sits on the committees of House Ways and Means and District of Columbia. Commonly known as the House Ethics Committee, the Committee on Standards of Official Conduct investigates representatives who have been accused of ethics violations. Offenders are either reprimanded or expelled from the House. While most committees are dominated by the majority party, the Ethics Committee comprises six members from each party, with a majority member acting as chair.
